BrainInfo is a website that helps one identify structures in the brain and provides many different kinds of information about each structure. It consists of three basic knowledge bases: NeuroNames, which provides the index to brain structures and narrative information about them; the Template Atlas, which shows the structures that are found in the primate brain; and NeuroMaps, a set of several hundred overlays that will show the location of different kinds of information that have been mapped to the standard background maps (templates) of the Atlas. Information about brain structures in other species, particularly the human, is provided by links to other websites.

6   Link   ClinicalTrials.gov
ClinicalTrials.gov offers up-to-date information for locating federally and privately supported clinical trials for a wide range of diseases and conditions. A clinical trial (also clinical research) is a research study in human volunteers to answer specific health questions. Interventional trials determine whether experimental treatments or new ways of using known therapies are safe and effective under controlled environments. Observational trials address health issues in large groups of people or populations in natural settings.

ClinicalTrials.gov currently contains 65,949 trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, other federal agencies, and private industry. Studies listed in the database are conducted in all 50 States and in 161 countries ClinicalTrials.gov receives over 40 million page views per month 50,000 visitors daily.

7   Link   Cochrane Stroke Group
The Cochrane Stroke Group has been a part of The Cochrane Collaboration since August 1993. The Cochrane Collaboration is an international organisation that aims to help people make well-informed decisions about healthcare by 'preparing, maintaining, and promoting the accessibility of systematic reviews of the effects of healthcare interventions'.

Cochrane systematic reviews bring together all the available evidence relating to a clearly formulated healthcare question for evaluation and synthesis, using predetermined criteria and explicit methods designed to limit bias.

The Cochrane Stroke Group's Editorial Office is based in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, UK, and has been funded by the Chief Scientist Office (part of the Scottish Executive Health Department) since January 1994.

The Cochrane Stroke Group seeks to identify and review all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) of interventions in the primary and secondary prevention of stroke, and the treatment and rehabilitation of stroke patients, including subarachnoid haemorrhage. Primary prevention trials are restricted to those in which stroke is the major outcome of interest, eg carotid surgery for asymptomatic stenosis. The primary prevention of generalised vascular disease is beyond the scope of the Cochrane Stroke Group, as is the primary prevention of stroke in patients with cardiac disease, eg stroke following myocardial infarction/cardiac surgery.

The main aim of ESO is the improvement and optimisation of stroke management by continuing education. Medical professionals can easily obtain information on the latest developments in this treatment area by visiting the ESO Virtual Stroke University.

The ESO Virtual Stroke University seeks to:

* Present important lectures from major international meetings
* Create a forum for an international audience of experts
* Create a forum for an international audience of experts
* Present the best training and educational support for stroke physicians and health providers

The ESO virtual symposia feature audio recordings synchronised with full screen slides. Visitors can therefore follow the slides exactly as they were presented at the meeting, while watching and listening to the speaker.

The lectures were recorded at different international stroke conferences, sponsored by ESO.

Currently, the Virtual Stroke University provides lectures on the following topics:

* Clinical trials/research
* Epidemiology
* Etiology of stroke
* Imaging and diagnosis
* Clinical manifestations of stroke
* Risk factors and prevention
* Acute stroke management
* Thrombolysis
* Neuroprotection
* Rehabilitation
* Invasive interventions and stroke
